Emirati citizens will have their passports automatically renewed and issued at their doorstep six months before the expiration date, thanks to a smart system announced by the General Directorate of Residence and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai on Monday.

Launched as part of the UAE’s 50th National Day celebrations, the system uses artificial intelligence to detect passports approaching their expiration date before sending notifications to GDRFA agents for their action.

Passport holders are then contacted to determine their preferred delivery method to receive the passports at their doorstep.

His Excellency Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, said: “Dubai citizens will not need to apply for passport renewal. The process takes place automatically at the GDRFA where we have dedicated a team for this service.

The service, which is currently being implemented for the first time, has garnered admiration from the community. Al Marri said 92 citizens have so far had their passports renewed and issued automatically.

“The system makes it easier for citizens, especially when planning their trips abroad without realizing that their passports are about to expire,” Al Marri said.

He added that the full digital transformation of the services can detect the expiration date of passports from the online database.

Al Marri noted that the authority is constantly exploring proactive and innovative initiatives in line with the UAE government’s vision to improve the quality of life for citizens and residents.

44,000 Golden Visa beneficiaries

During the press conference, Al Marri revealed that 44,000 Dubai residents have received the Golden Visa since the launch of the long-term residency program.

Applications are reviewed daily to ensure they meet the criteria presented by the government.

Al Marri has noted a steady increase in the number of travelers at Dubai airports since the start of the Covid-19 recovery.

Dubai now sees around 145,000 travelers pass through the airport every day, including a daily record of 65,000 visitors entering the emirate, approaching the number of passengers four years ago.

Al Marri said that thanks to the swift and competent measures the UAE has taken to recover, the number of daily travelers is expected to soon reach 200,000.

With many Australians keen to fly abroad once the international travel ban is lifted on November 1, there has been a rush on passport renewals – especially as potential travelers find out that their passports expired in the last 18 months when he sat in a drawer.

According to the Australian Passport Office, it normally takes around three weeks to receive a passport – but there are a few tips that can ensure a faster turnaround even without paying the $ 200 “priority processing” fee.

Apply for a “simplified passport renewal”

Most Australians with recently expired passports are eligible for the ‘Easy Renewal’ process, which allows the Australian Passport Office to reuse your old passport file rather than starting from scratch with a brand new application.

Under the Simplified Renewal Program, all you need to do is submit an application checklist form, two new passport photos and your most recent passport.

Simplified renewal is available for adults (not children) with an Australian passport that

  • was issued when you were 16 or older, and
  • was valid at the time of issue for more than two years, and
  • was issued to your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
  • expired less than three years ago (or is still valid), and
  • has not been reported lost or stolen, or has been canceled for any other reason.

(Why would you need to renew a passport that is always up to date? Many countries will not allow entry if your passport has expired within 3 to 6 months.)

With much less paperwork to complete, simplified passport renewal applications flow through the system.

To apply for a simplified passport renewal online, start by creating an account on online.passports.gov.au and you will be guided step by step through the process.

Submit your passport renewal application to the GPO

It is no longer possible to lodge your passport application at the passport office without making an appointment – and appointments are only available “if you have to travel urgently for unforeseen compassionate or compelling reasons.”

Instead, passport applications must be dropped off at a participating Australia Post outlet, and from there it may take a few days to reach the passport office.

But here’s a little-known tip: Each capital’s GPO (General Post Office) has a daily courier service that brings all passport applications submitted before noon straight to that city’s passport office, where processing can begin that afternoon. midday.

This can reduce the total turnaround time for your shiny new passport by several days.

Pick up your passport at the passport office

While passport offices are closed for filing applications, they are open (until 4 p.m. on weekdays) for people collecting their new passports.

If you live or work in the city, or can easily get to the CBD, then when completing your Simplified Renewal Application, check the box to pick it up from the city passport office.

With all the delays in the postal system right now, it could save you anywhere from a few days to a whole week waiting for your new passport to be delivered in the mail.

Pay the priority $ 220 for free

Even these tips cannot guarantee that your new passport will be back in less than three weeks.

If you really need it ASAP (because you’re planning to jump on a flight next week), it’s worth paying the extra $ 220 priority handling fee.

This speeds up your application so that your new passport is ready for collection at the passport office within 2-3 business days.

But unless there is that urgent need for a new passport, use the first three tips here – apply for a streamlined rebel, file your application at the GPO, and collect your passport from the passport office – the deadline will always be much faster than usual. .

The Malaysian Immigration Department revealed its intention to make the passport renewal process fully online by 2022. The plan was noted in an announcement dated September 28 on its website.

To prepare for implementation, Immigration has set up a self-service kiosk that uses the online passport renewal service of its Security and Passport division in Menara Ikhlas, Putrajaya. The ministry also said immigration officers will also be stationed at the self-service counter to assist users.

MyPassport Online self-service counter at Immigration Malaysia headquarters in Putrajaya.

As the country will very soon begin to take a different approach to dealing with COVID-19, the decision taken by Immigration comes as no surprise, however. The timing is also rather apt as the Rakyat will once again be allowed to travel abroad once the rate of fully vaccinated adults in Malaysia reaches 90%.

After all, the online passport renewal system called My passport online has been around for years. The process is also fairly straightforward as it simply involves submitting photos, verifying the information extracted from the ministry’s file, choosing the preferred immigration location for passport collection, and paying the renewal fee.

MyOnline Passport, captured at 7:27 p.m. today.

That being said, MyOnline Passport has very specific photo requirements, which is understandable given the importance of the document. Currently, Immigration has set the renewal fee at RM200 for citizens aged 13 to 59, while those over 60 are charged slightly lower at RM100.

Philippines ePassport Renewal Center to facilitate the application process

Sep 29, 2021 – 8:39 AM

Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Alan L Timbayan with BLS officials and Embassy staff inaugurating the new Philippine ePassport Renewal Center.

Philippine Ambassador to Qatar HE Alan L Timbayan yesterday inaugurated the new Philippine Electronic Passport Renewal Center (PaRC) in Doha.

The PaRC is located at the Al Shoumoukh Towers and is operated by BLS International. It would respond to requests from Filipinos with ordinary passports, which do not result in changes to the holder’s passport file. The Philippine Embassy monitors applications to the PaRC. The Embassy is still responsible for producing passports, which would take four to six weeks of processing time. All passports renewed at the PaRC must be collected at the Center.

“Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DFA) remains proactive in finding solutions that would continue to improve its services, regardless of the challenges,” Ambassador Timbayan said during of the opening.

With more than an estimated 250,000 Filipino Overseas Workers (OFW) employed in various sectors in Qatar, the ambassador said the volume of applications required the opening of the PaRC and the government’s commitment to facilitate access to services for Filipinos around the world. “The Philippine Embassy in Doha has implemented an online appointment system for passport renewal applications to ensure that health protocols are strictly adhered to at its premises.

Although the Embassy accepts and processes on average over 200 passport renewal applications per day, the need for passport services remains considerably high. “It is with great pleasure that each of you is welcomed to the BLS-International Philippine Passport Renewal Center (PaRC). The realization of this center is the result of the tireless efforts of the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide more accessible and convenient passport services to the Filipino community in the State of Qatar, ”he added. Qatar is the third country in the Gulf region after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to have opened a ParC by the Philippine government.

The services will operate every day from Sunday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. by appointment. The QR 240 passport fee will be charged for the application process, while BLS will collect an additional QR91 as a convenience fee. This would be a small price to pay for many Filipinos, who have had to wait longer to get an embassy appointment.

The Philippine Embassy in Doha yesterday inaugurated the Passport Renewal Center (PaRC) in Doha, further improving passport services for Filipino expatriates in the country. PaRC, a stand-alone facility established by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) with BLS International, is located on the 17th floor of the Al Shoumoukh Tower, close to the Al Sadd metro station.
The newly opened facility offers Filipino expats in Qatar another accessible and convenient option, besides the embassy, to renew their passports. “Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains proactive in finding solutions that would continue to improve its services, regardless of the challenges,” said Philippine Ambassador Alan L Timbayan , which was joined by BLS. The international regional manager (Middle East) Anne Kurian for the inauguration of the installation.
The envoy noted that the embassy “has set up an online appointment system for passport renewal applications to ensure that health protocols will be strictly observed on its premises.”
“Although the embassy accepts and processes on average more than 200 passport renewal applications per day, the need for passport services remains considerably high,” he said.
The PaRC in Doha has a reception, five processing counters, a section for biometrics and a passport collection area. It will be open 12 hours a day, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, except during Qatar public holidays.
