Dubai: automatic passport renewal service for Emiratis announced – news
On the occasion of the 50th National Day of the United Arab Emirates.
Emirati citizens will have their passports automatically renewed and issued at their doorstep six months before the expiration date, thanks to a smart system announced by the General Directorate of Residence and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai on Monday.
Launched as part of the UAE’s 50th National Day celebrations, the system uses artificial intelligence to detect passports approaching their expiration date before sending notifications to GDRFA agents for their action.
Passport holders are then contacted to determine their preferred delivery method to receive the passports at their doorstep.

His Excellency Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, said: “Dubai citizens will not need to apply for passport renewal. The process takes place automatically at the GDRFA where we have dedicated a team for this service.
The service, which is currently being implemented for the first time, has garnered admiration from the community. Al Marri said 92 citizens have so far had their passports renewed and issued automatically.
“The system makes it easier for citizens, especially when planning their trips abroad without realizing that their passports are about to expire,” Al Marri said.
He added that the full digital transformation of the services can detect the expiration date of passports from the online database.
Al Marri noted that the authority is constantly exploring proactive and innovative initiatives in line with the UAE government’s vision to improve the quality of life for citizens and residents.
44,000 Golden Visa beneficiaries
During the press conference, Al Marri revealed that 44,000 Dubai residents have received the Golden Visa since the launch of the long-term residency program.
Applications are reviewed daily to ensure they meet the criteria presented by the government.
Al Marri has noted a steady increase in the number of travelers at Dubai airports since the start of the Covid-19 recovery.
Dubai now sees around 145,000 travelers pass through the airport every day, including a daily record of 65,000 visitors entering the emirate, approaching the number of passengers four years ago.
Al Marri said that thanks to the swift and competent measures the UAE has taken to recover, the number of daily travelers is expected to soon reach 200,000.
