Obtaining or renewing a Pakistani passport: conditions and process

Here is the process you need to go through before getting your Pakistani passport.

The applicant will go through the following steps at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) to get the passport machine readable (MRP):

NOTE: Prior to arrival at Regional Passport Office (RPO), original receipt of Challan Bank should be obtained from authorized branches of National Bank in Pakistan and relevant bank branches for foreign missions respectively, by depositing fee prescribed passport.

o Arrival of the requester at the customer service counter. Process flow table

o Token counter + Photograph capture

o Capture of biometric data. (Fingerprints)

o Data entry.

o Verification according to Office Record. (ECL / BL)

o Interview and decision by the deputy director.

o Passport delivery time (withdrawal of passport).

Step 1 – Arrival of the requester at the customer service counter

The applicant will contact the customer service counter of the regional passport office.

The applicant will be guided through the process of the passport application system.

If the applicant has all the required documents, they will be guided to the token counter.

A separate passport will be issued to each applicant, regardless of age.

ALL KINDS OF AMENDMENTS, INCLUDING CHILDREN’S NAMES IN PARENTAL PASSPORTS, ARE NOT PERMITTED in the Machine Readable Passport.

Step 2 – Token Counter + Photograph Capture

The applicant must produce the original of the CNIC / Smart-Card / NICOP or of the registration certificate for children (CRC), in the case of less than 18 years old, as well as its copies and the Bank Chalan form.

The camera operator will capture the candidate’s photograph.

The token will be issued to the requester.

Step 3 – Capture of biometric data (fingerprints)

The applicant after obtaining the token will approach the biometric counter as soon as his token appears at the biometric capture counter.

The counter data entry operator (DEO) will capture their right thumb, right index finger, left thumb and left index fingerprints.

Step 4 – Entering the data

The Candidate will go to the Data Entry Counters as soon as their token number appears on the Counter.

The data entry operator will enter all required data of the requester while the data entry screen will also be visible to the requester.

In case of data modification, the requestor should be guided by the data entry operator accordingly. Once the data entry is complete, the data entry form will be printed by the operator and presented to the requester for verification.

The Applicant will verify all of its content by signing the form.

The requester will be prompted to retrieve the duplicate token from the data entry counter.

NOTE: ANY CHANGES TO THE DATA MUST BE REPORTED AT THIS STAGE. ONCE THE INFORMATION IS REGISTERED, FOR ANY CHANGES, THE TOKEN SHOULD BE CANCELED AND THE APPLICANT SHOULD RETURN THE ENTIRE PROCESS. AFTER AUTHORIZING “GO AHEAD” THE DATA BY THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR, NO CHANGE OF DATA WILL BE POSSIBLE.

Step 5 – Check against Office Record (ECL / BL)

The verification against the office file will be carried out.

Check against exit checklist (ECL) and blacklist (BL).

If there is any doubt about the national status of the applicant, the case can be referred to the Special Branch / IB for confirmation of their national status as a Pakistani or other citizen.

Step 6 – Interview and decision by the deputy director

Finally, the applicant will appear in front of the Deputy Director when their token appears on the AD counter with all the original documents.

The Deputy Director will question the claimant and report his verdict to the claimant whether their case should be allowed or denied.

The Deputy Director will postpone the case of the applicant under the age of 18 and give the printed form to the applicant for attestation of his photograph of a Class 1 government officer.

The attorney must enter his CNIC / contact number as well as the official stamp on the form.

Upon production of the data form (duly certified), the deferred token will be authorized.

Passport delivery time (passport collection)

After successfully completing the above steps, the applicant will be assigned: –

10 working days to collect their passport; in the case of a normal passport.

04 working days to collect his passport; in case of urgent passport.

NOTE: Passports sent from headquarters to be delivered to applicants within the prescribed processing times can be tracked via SMS and online passport tracking system, but to reach their destination i.e. regional office passport (RPO) or foreign mission (FM) shipping time.
